IBM Storage
The IBM TS4300 is represents an excellent entry point to automated tape libraries. Using LTO technology it can start as a single 3U rack mounted chassis with 1-3 tape drives and scale to 16 chassis holding 11.52 Petabytes of tape media.
This library features a robotic assembly able to traverse all enclosures making up the library allowing any stored tape to retrieved to any installed tape drive.
The library also features removable tape magazines for efficient extraction of media allowing tape rotation / off-siting policies to be enacted. This makes the library well suited to backup environment for enterprise use cases as well as a tier of near-line storage for large data management applications.
For larger deployments we would recommend IBM’s Diamondback 19” rack-based tape library or for the largest deployments IBM’s TS4500 multi-frame library.
