Both models are powered by IBM Spectrum Virtualize, enabling advanced storage services such as thin provisioning, data reduction pools, compression, deduplication, and Easy Tier automated tiering. This software-defined approach allows seamless integration with existing storage systems and supports hybrid cloud deployments, ensuring consistent management and data mobility across environments.

The FlashSystem 5015 is optimized for affordability and ease of deployment, making it suitable for smaller workloads and environments with limited IT resources. The FlashSystem 5045 offers enhanced capabilities, including clustering for scale-out growth, advanced encryption, Safeguarded Copy for immutable snapshots, and support for high availability configurations with IBM HyperSwap. Both models support a wide range of drive options, including flash and traditional disk, and can scale up to hundreds of drives per system, with the 5045 supporting up to 880 drives in a two-way cluster.
