This course is a beginner-friendly introduction to the Python programming language, tailored for individuals with little to no programming experience. It is ideal for students, researchers, and professionals looking to learn Python for general-purpose computing, data processing, or scientific applications.

It also serves as a pre-cursor for more advanced HPC related concepts, such as parallel computing and profiling Python code.

Contents
Participants will learn core Python programming concepts, including:

• Brief over-view of programming
• Introducing Python, what it is and why we use it in science/engineering
• Basic syntax of Python and how we execute Python scripts. Using the print function
• Variables, what are they, how do we use them and why do we use them
• Basic operators used in Python
• For loops, while loops, conditional statements
• Functions, what they are, why and how we use them
• Reading and writing to files
• Importing modules and using other peoples code.
• Creating publication quality graphs.

Format
No prior coding experience is required. This course will be delivered as a presentation and interactive coding tasks. There will be an overall target which is to produce a publication quality graph, this will require all skills learnt.
