Nice

NICE (an Amazon Web Services company since 2016, originally Italian) develops software that makes high-performance computing usable from anywhere, specialising in remote visualisation and technical computing portals.

  • NICE DCV is widely regarded as the best-in-class remote 3D visualisation protocol: it streams GPU-accelerated OpenGL/DirectX applications from data centre or cloud to any client with exceptional responsiveness, even over constrained networks.
  • For engineering and research organisations, this solves a fundamental problem where datasets are too large to move to workstations, so the desktop must move to the data.
    • Analysts run CAD, CAE pre/post-processing, medical imaging, or seismic interpretation against data sitting next to the cluster, with full GPU acceleration and no data leaving the facility (a security win).
    • EnginFrame complements DCV with a web-based HPC portal: users submit and monitor jobs, manage data, and launch interactive sessions through a browser, dramatically lowering the barrier to HPC adoption for non-specialists.
  • By keeping visualisation server-side, NICE eliminates the need to replicate multi-terabyte result files to end users therefore reducing storage sprawl and WAN load.
  • DCV underpins remote GPU workstations for data scientists and powers interactive AI development environments; EnginFrame-style portals give AI teams friendly front doors to shared GPU clusters. AWS's backing ensures deep cloud/hybrid integration.
